CEREC - Single Visit Dentistry

by smilezdental
Do it once but Do it right, dental treatment options!

Imagine a world with no crowns! No temporaries, no extra visits and no extra dental shots! Well that world has become a reality now! We live in a CAD-CAM world and dentistry has been revolutionized by what computers can do to teeth needing restorations.

CAD-CAM dentistry has been around for over 25 years. Over past 2-3 years this technology has got refined even further and removing a silver filling and replacing it with a gorgeous white ceramic filling in a matter of couple of hours is very much happening right here right now! After numbing a patient, filling is removed, digital impressions taken instantly with a small intra-oral camera which gets captured onto a 3D computer screen. Ceramic fillings are then designed on the computer and milled right inside the office with a Robotic milling machine in a matter of 4-8 mins! Whether it is a 12 year old or a 90 year old, every single patient is awed when they see their own future filling or crown milled right in front of their eyes from pure porcelain blocks!

Advantages are multifold
1. A young child whose tooth is not completely erupted, would be put into a silver crown does not need it any more if your dentist has this technology. Thus preserving the precious enamel.
2. An adult patient with new decay or recurring decay under an old filling can get just that damage portion removed and replaced in the same visit. Whereas with traditional dentistry, that same tooth would entail the need of a full crown thus removing all the natural healthy enamel on outside of the decay area and filling the decayed area with plastic filling!
3. Apprehensive patients who hate needles and the sheer idea to go to a dentist again and again can relax because once a patient is numb on one side, all the fillings on that side can be started and finished in a matter of 2-3 hours time! So it is literally one- visit dentistry!

Disadvantages
1. Very few dentist offer this service as there is a huge learning curve and a need for changing their old treatment philosophies!
2. Initial investment from dentist to buy this technology is huge making it a business decision, whether to venture into this technology or not.
3. Patient may have to travel further out to seek to find a dentist offering these Do it once but Do it right, treatment options!

Whether someone is looking for functional restoration or cosmetic veneers, all is a possibility with single visit, do it once do it right technology!
