Owen M. McCarthy, M.D. is certified by The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Georgetown University, Washington D.C., and his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington D.C. Before entering private practice, Dr. McCarthy completed his internship at St. Vincent's Hospital, New York City, followed by a general residency at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, GA. Dr. McCarthy completed his orthoapedic residencies at Bellevue NYU hospital, and served as the Chief of Surgery at Patrick Air Force Base, Cape Canaveral-Cocoa Beach, FL.
Dr. McCarthy is on staff at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, and Columbia L.W. Balke Hospital in Bradenton. In Sun City Center, Dr. McCarthy is on staff at Columbia South Bay Hospital. In addition to Bradenton, Sarasota, South Hillsborough County, Dr. McCarthy also serves patients living on Long Boat Key, Anna Maria Island, and Siesta Key.
Dr. McCarthy has treated musculoskeletal problems in performance artists on Broadway, London Theatre, and throughout Asia. Most of them have returned to their careers after their rehab work. He has also treated high school athletes in the area that have recovered and continued playing football, baseball, basketball, and tennis for collegiate teams, and in some cases professional sport franchises and ATP Grand Slam tennis tournaments.
