Has anyone used "Wellness Dog Food"? I'm not sure if it's called wellness brand dog food or just wellness dog food. But I'm wondering if organic dog food is really any better for dogs.

I've heard that if your dog is suffering from unexplainable health issues of any sort, that this new dogfood is the first thing to try before more vet bills. People really rave about it. I haven't bought it yet. I'm not worried about my dog "liking it" I'm concerned about the cost. Then again, vet bills can be several hundred (or thousand) dollars per year, so maybe it is really less expensive to buy the good stuff. Anyone have a specific story to share? Should we just get use to the cost?

A family member uses this product to optimize her dog's health: http://www.dinovite.com/. I don't know how well it works, but I'll find out. Their website has testimonials on it that seem genuine.

I have two dogs, Zoie a 10 year old Golden Retriever and Griffin 4 year old G.Retriever mix. Both have been on a Holistic Dog food from Solid Gold since they were puppies. I have actually been using this food for over 15 years. They are located in El Cajon, CA. Their food can be purchased at some of the major pet stores.

My dogs eat the Hund-n-Flocken Adult Dog/ with Lamb

My dogs are extremely healthy...they eat Solid Gold food and I add another all whole food supplement that was actually formulated for humans to their daily diet.

Check out their website:

Here is a little info from their web site

Solid Gold Health Products For Pets, Inc., has been a pioneer of natural, holistic animal nutrition since 1974. We now have a line of nine dry dog and cat foods, including our new high protein, low carbohydrate dry dog food, Barking at the Moon™. We also have a line of canned dog and cat foods as well as nutritional supplements, treats, and topical products.

We specialize in the development of "low allergen" products, which work together to enhance total health, boost up the immune system, and protect against disease. We always use wholesome USDA Choice meats, USDA grade I and II grains, and healthful monounsaturated and polyunsaturated oils.

We never use chemical preservatives such as BHA, BHT and Ethoxyquin, which may be related to some diseases in pets. We never use wheat, corn, or soy, which are often genetically modified and common allergens for dogs, causing them to have uncomfortable skin disorders, chew incessantly at their feet, or suffer from chronic problems such as ear infections. We never add animal or poultry fat to our products, as these are saturated fats that may contribute to heart disease and certain types of cancer.

Does anyone know if any of the local pet stores sell the Wellness dry dog food? I am really interested in getting one of my GSD's the food because of his allergies, but I can only find it online. I don't do credit cards etc. so I wouldn't be able to get it unless I could get it at a local pet store etc.

PetSmart carries this brand of food. My dogs and cat have been eating it ever since I found it and they love it. I also like the Merrick canned food. I am extremely picky and a lable reader when it comes to pet and people food. These products have the best ingredient lists I have seen in pet foods.

I like the Wellness brand canned food for my cat too because Petsmart doesn't carry the Merrick canned cat food.
Their website is http://www.wellnesspetfood.com

The Merrick dog food has ingredients that would be good enough for people food! their site is:

example :
Harvest Moon
The full moon is out and the flavors of harvest paint the sky. Harvest is a time to reflect on what we've invested in, the seeds we've planted in our life and others. So here's to keeping more seeds of love and mercy in our garden shed. The Merrick's would like to thank farmers around the world and let's make trade fair.

I've been using Eagle Pack dog food for my pup as I know how important using good food is for their health. Looks like Wellness is also good!

We have a 11 y/o Siberian Husky who has had respiratory allergies since 2 years. He has been on a very low dose of prednisone for all this time. We started him on Nature's Recipe - a pet food at that time that had Venison and Rice and less of the common foods that cause allergies.
He was no worse but no better. Around the age of 9 he started getting horrible raw skin lesions in addition to the cough and mucous. I read somewhere that rice can be a problem for some dogs. So I researched and found Wellness - the whitefish and sweetpotato variety. The only other grain in it is hulled Barley. He loved it. It was about 1/3 more expensive than the previous food. AND in less than 8 weeks his skin lesions completely disappeared for good! His skin was completely normal. I highly recommend anyone with allergic problems in their dog, try this food.
1. No preservatives
2. Simple ingredients
3. Cheaper than vet bills and ointments and medications

My Sage is 6 & my Shylo is a year & a half. I have been feeding wellness to Sage since she was a pup. Shylo was rescued 6 months ago. Recently I switched to the Wellness super 5 weight managment formula since Sage is now 6. Shylo eats it as well. It has less calories.
As far as the cans, they say canned dogfood is not really good for their teeth, but I use a small amount in thier kibble for more flavor. They enjoy it.
As far a the cost, well, I feel it's not as expensive as you may think, but you should also consider that this animal is your child. Always give your child the best.
I do.
