I have NEVER in the 60 years of dealing with doctors and my health ever experienced such a total lack of patient care and concern as with Dr. Herbert Biel. ..Indiana Orthpaedic Center. This man is rude, dismissive, arrogant, non-communicative and insensitive to the medical concern of his patient. When I ask a question in the 2 minutes he stays in the room he would looked agitated and answer something inaudible as he walked out of the room. This happened at every visit ...5 total. At one visit he entered the room to review the MRI film he had order. When I asked him what they said, he grunted and replied, "You wouldn't understand". When his nurse came in I lost my composure and told her Dr. Biel isn't giving me quality care and I am finally firing him. Something I should have done 4 visits before. I have gone to two other doctors in this group and I was very satified. One of them has been my hand surgeon for 8yrs.

My appointment with Dr. Biel was quite some time ago but one I will hardly forget.
Perhaps, Dr. Biel was having a difficult day but I was having a pretty hard day myself and afterall, I was paying the bill for the office appointment but I also found myself paying for this Dr.'s bad day.
The point I would like to make; please be careful Dr's/Physicians how you address and treat your patients. Being in Dr. Biel's office was the worse experience I have ever encountered in my life and having raising children I have much experience as far as office visits.
I found Dr. Biel, in my own personal experience, arrogant and he also had a dismissive attitude and "callousness" in discussing my serious condition. I won't go into specifics but it was very devastating to me.
Again, Physicians out there, be careful how you address and treat your patients because we carry your "treatments" out the door with us.

This is what happened to me when I went to see this Dr. for the first time. This is how I felt during and after my appointment.

Dr. Biel's bedside manner not merely hurt my feelings, but it also still interferes with my seeing other physicians.
After sitting and waiting to see a Dr. I had never seen before and feeling quite nervous just from that fact, he entered the room, heard a brief description of my problem and in my opinion became quite insensitive and dismissive. I felt he conveyed a negative attitude toward me and did not respond positively to my questions and concerns. I begin to bawl like a baby which seem to make him more agitated with me, for reasons I still don't understand. Dr. Biel also said my symptoms and the cause of my symptoms were not true. I still don't understand what he was talking about but feeling as though he was calling me a thief in so many words, I assured him that I was in his office to get medical attention and I had great insurance. His fees would be 100% covered.
Then he proceeded out of the room and as I sat there still crying. I overheard him telling his nurse what seem to be in a disgusted tone about what happened, making me feel even worse. To top it off, his nurse then entered the room and said, "The Dr. does not need to see you again." Of course, I definitely didn't want to come back to his office after that experience and he had ever right not to want to see me again if he desired not to. But the whole appointment seemed so insensitive, unlike I ever felt at a Dr's office before.
I realize even Doctors have bad days but I hope Doctors will keep in mind, a patient, especially one who's never visited your office before, could be very fragile mentally from their condition and if the Doctor would display just a little sensitivity, care or concern, it would go a long way. If you can't show these good qualities for the patient, please keep in mind your fees are very high and no one have the desire to pay a professional who come across in such a manner.
While walking out the door and through the parking lot I thought I would never see another physician as long as I lived even though at that moment, I desperately needed one. I went home and fell into a deep depression for a couple of weeks. I set an appointment to see another Orthopedic Surgeon but I canceled at the last minute. I have also canceled my appointment to see my general physician who's always been a great and considerate Doctor to me.
