I have been a patient at Dr. Schoonmaker's office for two years now, and I have finally had enough. I don't frequent the doctor's office; I am not often sick, but when I do fall ill, I get hit hard. Last year, I went in with a cold that had moved into my chest. My cough was getting worse and I was having a hard time breathing. On my first visit, they told me there wasn't anything they could do for a cold, and to take vitamin C and rest. If it didn't get better in a few days, I was to come back. Three days later, I was getting worse, and returned to the office. I was given a referral to get a chest x-ray, which I did the same day, and sent home with the promise that I would get a call with my results promptly. Two days later, I couldn't stand up straight because I had pulled a muscle in my ribcage coughing, and had a very, very high temperature. As I had not heard back with my chest x-ray results, I made an appointment to return. At my THIRD appointment, they decided I had had pneumonia the whole time. I had to go on Cipro, an inhaler, and two other medications, and was barely able to function for two weeks. At that point, I got a call from the office: "We were just calling to check in and see how you are. Your chest x-rays show you have pneumonia, so you should probably come in for an appointment."
The last time I went in (a month ago), I was having extreme dizzy spells. Dr. Schoonmaker told me, "It will probably just go away." When I told him I just wanted to be sure nothing serious was going on, he looked at me like I was a loon, then told me if I was really worried about it, they could stick a needle in my eardrum and freeze my balance nerve. Long story short, I left that day and won't be going back.
Recently, he prescribed my friend something to put in her ear that is supposed to be topical only. She ended up at Urgent Care with an extreme allergic reaction, and the doctor there told her she needed to see an ENT doc. At a follow-up visit with Schoonmaker, he told her it wasn't an allergic reaction, just a reaction that happened because she used the medication "without warming it up". And refused to give her the referral, again saying, "You're fine."
I would suggest staying away from this office.

Never, they go out of their way to address every concern of mine immediately

Absolutely! You can tell that he/she really makes an effort to look professional

Not one bit! I felt much better when I left!

He/she would never do that! Their full attention is always on me.
