My therapist referred me to a psychiatrist for medication, and Dr. Baccaro was on my provider list for my insurance. I was being treated for PTSD following a violent sexual assault, and I picked her because I thought a female psychiatrist would be easier to talk to given what had happened to me. My therapist called Dr. Baccoro three times to consult with her as to my situation and my case in general. Dr. Baccaro was too busy to speak to her on the phone and never called her back despite repeated messages. On my first visit, Dr. Baccoro demanded to know the details on the rape, including where and how he violated me. She asked specifics – was it vaginal rape? Did he sodomize me? Did he put his penis in my mouth? Did I scream? Did I fight? Needless to say, I was crying hysterically by the end of my 10 minute appointment. On my second visit she demanded to know if I masturbated. She was rude and cold and arrogant and, except for the painful prodding, didn’t seem interested in me at all. She wrote out a bevy of prescriptions and sent me on my way. Now I have medication that is keeping me from suicide at least but I dread seeing her each month almost as much as I dread seeing him drive past my house. I’m switching as soon as I can find another female psychiatrist that my insurance covers.
