Dr. Anderson has been our family practitioner for over 8 years and can be considered a top notch provider who has diagnosed problems that no other doctors were able to figure out. In addition, he is very understanding, thoughtful and caring. He has frequently gone out of his way to check back with patients to see how they are doing and is prompt in responding when he is "on-call".

Unfortunately, his current nurse has had an issue with my wife for quite some time and has displayed such poor ethical behavior that after 8 years we have no option but to seek a new primary physician. For example, when trying to make appointments in recent months my wife has been frequently forwarded to this new nurse at which time she states that no appointments are available. If I (her husband) then immediately call back to make an appointment using a different name for the same doctor, several openings are 'suddenly' available. How can such a top-notch doctor (and practice) allow this?

The most recent incident was on 9/17/08 when arriving for our scheduled appointment at which time Dr. Anderson's Nurse refused to let us see Dr. Anderson (or any doctor for that matter). Why???

Somehow she had determined (over the phone?) that my wife needed to go directly to the ER and claimed that Dr. Anderson advised this. That is interesting because in the past (including a time when she was diagnosed with Meningitis), Dr. Anderson gladly saw her and promptly admitted her to the hospital for the necessary diagnostic procedures and treatment. In this 9/17 incident, no triage was performed by this nurse so how could she know that seeing the Doctor was not the proper course of action? No Blood Pressure, no temperature........nothing!!!!

We have trusted Dr. Anderson for many many years so why would we not be allowed to pay him $$ for his time, expert opinion, diagnosis and treatment plan?

Emergency Rooms should be used for life-threatening situations and the 9/17 incident was not one (or at least a triage would need to be performed to determine this, correct?).

The proper course of action for non life-threatening conditions is to see your family doctor so he (or she) can order the proper diagnostic tests or perhaps admit the patient if the initial examination warrants this. Avoiding an Emergency room visit should always be considered by the primary care physician. This saves an enormous amount of money for the client and eases the burden on the ER personnel to deal with
TRUE emergencies. (In our case, approximately $400 would be wasted just to enter and ER due to our copay + 20% of the expenses).

Hopefully these incidents were limited and will not be encountered by current and future patients of Dr. Anderson since he is "best-of-breed" in all aspects and we have had nothing but an extraordinary Family Physician (and practice) until his staff changed.
