Douglas Berv is an outstanding psychiatrist. When I first went to him as a patient, I had paralyzing, painful anxiety. On top of that, I was scraping by through bouts of significant depression, and I was afraid my mania would resurface anytime. I went to Dr. Berv because my previous doctor, one of the foremost experts on bipolar disorders, recommended him. (I was even worse before I saw that expert, and I wasn’t with him for very long because I moved.)

After about three months of Dr. Berv’s treatment, my anxiety was under control and my mood was very stable. Dr. Berv had an encyclopedic knowledge of meds and found the right ones at right strength for me very quickly. He ordered blood tests frequently to make sure that my health was safe. He also made himself available to see me often, despite his large number of patients, to check on the progress of my mental health. (Patients were lining up to see him late into the evening.)

Dr. Berv also has a gentle and kind demeanor without compromising honesty. It’s easy to feel comfortable in his office and to tell him the truth about what I was going through and what I did or failed to do during tough times. He sympathized with my difficulties and respected me as a person. He also gave me appropriate advice about how to take better care of myself and my life.

After 18 months of Dr. Berv’s care, I am typically very stable and reasonably happy, despite not being stably employed. My anxiety hasn’t completely disappeared, but I don’t remember ever being as calm and comfortable in difficult situations as I am now. I am moving again, and I can only hope I can find another doctor like Douglas Berv.

I HAVE SEVERE ADD,THIS GUY LABELED ME BIPOLAR,TOLD HIM BIPOALR MEDS SENT ME TO ER SEVRAL TIMES, PRESCRIBED MEDS THAT DESTROY BRAIN CELLS , TOTALY DID NOT WANT TO TREAT MY ADD WITH STIMULANTS, LABELS EVERY ONE BIPOLAR. STAY AWAY

It takes time to get an appropriate diagnosis, but we got there. Works well and collaboratively with my therapist, too. Finally, feeling like I'm on the mend with effective meds. Listened incredibly well to my concerns, needs, and family history. I would recommend to anyone. Berv is sharp, very wise, and scientific. If you're looking for someone who is all huggy and touchy feely you'll be disappointed. But since that's not what I need hes a great match for me.

Does not listen well to my concerns. My side effects are dismissed as not caused by medication. Has a very difficult time working with a patient, it's either his way or no way, very poor way of working with individuals with Psychosis. Changing Dr's soon

Does not work collaboratively. Does not consider patient views or feelings. Will only prescribe medication. Will not allow any relapse or mistakes made by patient. He will stop treating you in the middle of treatment if you do not do exactly what he advises. Very disappointing.

This doctor is super expert with medications. After years of suffering and treating with many other psychiatrists, in one visit this doctor made the correct diagnosis and started me on the right medications. It took a while, but Dr. Berv stuck with me. He explained what he was doing and why at every visit. I now feel better than I have in memory. Note that although he is supportive, he is direct and gives it to you straight. He does only medications, but he will refer to a therapist if you need one. There is no psychiatrist better at diagnosis and prescribing medications.
