They knocked before entering the exam room, and even waited for me to reply that I was ready before entering. They really respected my privacy. It was so nice to arrive and see many fully qualified staff members. I've gone to some places that were very understaffed and I've never had a good experience. This place had a great staff though, and I'll definitely be going back. Everyone in my community knows that they are the absolute best in the field. They were one of the kindest, most caring staff I've ever dealt with. It didn't matter how many times I called with a question or concern, they were always happy to help me. Dr. Judge cares about you as a person and takes the time to always listen to what is going on and offer solutions. Dr. Judge helped me get through the most difficult part of my life: Menopause. She also helped me to cope through a family situation that I was unable to do on my own. She is very professional and addresses concerns that her patients have.

When I arrived for my appointment the friendly staff seemed to be waiting for me. I've been to other places where I had to wait forever after I arrived for my appointment, but not here. I was very impressed. They had a huge selection of magazines in the waiting room. I was able to find some of my favorites and they kept me entertained while I was waiting for my appointment. They were so respectful and kind. They went above and beyond what I would expect and really made me feel welcome. They are completely committed to helping me as long as it takes to find the best solution. I never have to worry that they'll back out or give up if a solution isn't reached immediately, which has been a problem for me at other places.

I went to Dr. Judge as a new patient. I was told over the phone that the cost of an annual exam was $170, which was fine. The cost was important to me because even though I have insurance, I have a very high deductible, so I would have to cover the cost up-front at my visit. My annual exam was non-eventful and just like every other exam I've had. Dr. Judge came in, asked me if I needed a prescription for birth control, wrote me a prescription for something to help with my painful menstrual cycles, and then did the exam. She spent maybe 10 minutes max with me, and that is a generous estimate. I actually felt like the visit was pretty rushed and the exam wasn't very thorough. (For example, she didn't push on certain areas and ask if I had pain like most OBGYNs do - she just roughly did the swab and that's it.) When I checked out with the receptionist, I was told it would be $120, which was fine with me since that was actually less than the $170 I had been quoted. It was only after I got home and looked at my bill that I realized it said I still had a balance of $250 to be billed to me at a later date.

I called the office and found out that the doctor had charged me an extra $200 for the conversation she had with me about birth control pills. I was appalled - that sort of patient/doctor conversation is obviously part of a woman's annual exam! The girl I spoke with, Amanda, was very nice but initially told me that they legally HAD to charge me the extra $200 because my insurance company didn't include patient consultations in their definition of an annual exam. I didn't believe this because I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield and I've never had a problem in the past. I asked Amanda to read me BCBS's definition of an "annual exam" straight from their handbook, which she did. It blatantly said that the annual exam includes the exam, patient counseling/consultation, any prescriptions written, and addressing patient concerns. When she realized that passing the blame off on the insurance company wasn't going to work, she simply said the charges were up to the doctor's discretion and she could charge what she felt was owed to her. I argued this because really, Dr. Judge spoke to me very briefly and it was mostly her trying to convince me to try hormonal birth control (which I declined several times due to past experiences). I expressed to Amanda that I couldn't believe I was being charged for conversation that was part of the annual exam process, and she said, "Well actually, the annual exam is just the physical actions of the exam. The doctor could have come in and done your exam and just left, but she introduced herself and spoke with you about birth control. That's why she's charging the extra $200."

I really almost lost it when she said that. Is that what our healthcare system has come to - charging patients extra for a 5-minute conversation about their health concerns? I am still in shock that this office tried to charge me that amount of money for having a conversation with my doctor - and a brief conversation that she initiated at that! After a lot of arguing and stress, Dr. Judge finally agreed to take the $200 charge off my bill but told me she could no longer see me as a patient since I had argued her fees. I'm surprised she thought I would be interested in returning in the first place. I really feel like she was completely unethical in this situation and if I hadn't been refunded the $200, we would be in court resolving it.

Please steer clear of this office and instead go to a doctor who won't charge you an arm and a leg extra for merely talking to you.
