I was treated by Dr. Glenn Sterling seven months ago. After a positive biopsy for basal carcinoma, Dr. Sterling assured me that the procedure he would perform would cure my cancer with 99% certainty. I was given no other information about the treatment or alternative treatments.

During the procedure, Dr. Sterling was talking with his assistant about a cosmetic procedure that he performed on the assistant's mother and her level of satisfaction with it. It was unprofessional to have this discussion during my visit, as I felt that he was trying to sell cosmetic services and led me to feel uncomfortable.

I went back to Dr. Sterling after 6 months, and unfortunately the cancer came back. Dr. Sterling wanted to repeat the procedure he initially performed, again stating that with 99% certainty the cancer would be cured. I felt that this was not an accurate statement backed up by evidence, and that I was not given full information to make an informed decision regarding my treatment. After researching basal carcinoma on the Internet, I told Dr. Sterling that I had learned of a procedure called mohs surgery. Only at this point did he explain this alternative treatment to me (where after removing each layer, a check is performed to see if the cancer is fully removed), and in fact admitted that he sent his mother, who had a similar issue, to a different physician for this procedure. At this stage, I felt uncomfortable and concerned regarding the care I received under Dr. Sterling as I was not fully informed about my options as a patient.

I’d also like to note that when I went to see a different physician for the mohs procedure, a full check up on my body was performed. This check up resulted in finding another area on my face that was infected with skin cancer. Dr. Sterling did not perform a full check up nor examine me for additional infected skin. Not only does this very absence seem neglectful, but the fact that he never mentioned the necessity to have this done is seriously troubling. All in all, I am deeply concerned about the level of care I received under Dr. Sterling, both due to unprofessional behavior and the withholding of critical information that may have impacted my treatment decision.
