My experience with Dr. Dewaele was one of the worst things that's ever happened to me. He removed too much tooth material from my front tooth when preparing my teeth for Invisalign, which led to one emergency root canal that week - and a SECOND emergency root canal a few weeks after, after he AGAIN removed too much tooth material from my second front tooth. I was in so much pain all week, and when I called to tell him (the first time), he said, "well you probably need a root canal." WHAT?? The possibility of a root canal was NEVER mentioned to me - he had explained that this was just a routine procedure. I had to pay out of pocket for two root canals, and my teeth were so inflamed during both procedures that my oral surgeon couldn't even give me enough Novocaine to numb them. After a follow up appointment with Dr. Dewaele, he removed the cap on my teeth and a horrible smell filled the room. The Dr. and his assistant ignored it, but I know they noticed because I saw them spraying air freshener after my appointment. Turns out I still had an infection (hence the smell) because I had to leave my vacation early in Atlantic City for an emergency apicoectomy where they had to scrape out the infected bone. Dr. Dewaele could have said something at the appointment but he instead ignored the problem and didn't even give me antibiotics which could have helped. After the procedure, I had stitches for weeks and my teeth are permanently weakened. To make matters even worse, Dr. Dewaele lied to me when I called him from Atlantic City (again in extreme pain) - he me he was busy and couldn't meet me at the office, but said he had called the oral surgeon who would call me directly. When I an hour went by and I hadn't received a call from the surgeon, I called him myself and he returned my call in 5 minutes.

I was a 24 year old student at the time and had to pay out of pocket for all the root canals and oral surgeries I ended up needing as a result of the TERRIBLE work of Dr. Dewaele. When I asked Dr. Dewaele to reimburse me for some of the thousands of dollars I had to spend on THREE oral surgeries, antibiotics, pain medication and follow up appointments, not to mention time out of work and ruined vacations, he offered me a set of whitening gel instead. This experience ruined the two years of my life I was dealing with him, and resulted in permanent damage to my teeth. I can't even bite an apple now because they are so weak. Do yourself a favor and DON'T go to Dr. Dewaele. I wish I had never set foot in his office.
