Having moved long distance to TX, I obtained all medical and dental records from previous doctors/dentists to start new professional relationships with full histories. At my daughter's first appointment with Lakeline Dental, they refused to accept x-rays from her former dentist even though they were not even six months old. I was told they had to diagnose my daughter's teeth - I requested they verify the x-rays and dental history with her previous dentist (even though I had all the info. present) No diagnostic work was necessary - we only wanted a routine teeth cleaning and check up. I was concerned not only about the unnecessary radiation but the expense of unnecessary x-rays. We loved our former dentist whom only x-rayed once a year (and sometimes every 18 months if finances were a problem) Luckily, my daughter has NEVER had so much as a cavity and no dental problems - we left and hope to find a dentist that will "start off" where we "left off" in the interest of providing care that is necessary only. (and not plumping up the fees when not necessary)

I really don't know how to go about this, so let me just explain.

In July, I started having serious pain in my mouth and I didn't have insurance so my mom offered to drive down and pay to have my mouth checked out. We went to Lakeline Family Dental (located in lakeline mall). When we got there, I explained to the dentist that I saw a few spots on my teeth and a VERY large one on one of my back molars that was absolutely killing me. Now, keep in mind, they are very visible. So, he proceeded to do X-rays and a full on exam (which we paid out of pocket for) and told me I have no cavities, just inflamed gums and prescribed some antibiotics . Now, I found this weird because even though I am not a dentist, you can see these cavities. So, I took his word for it and followed his advice.

My mouth has continued to hurt and I finally got insurance this month, so I went back again. I went to same office, but there was a different dentist that I saw. He was very rude (that's not the point though), but he took MORE X-rays, looked in my mouth and said,"Well you must have an infection. There are no cavities" He wouldn't even listen to me about my teeth and the holes in them and said someone should teach me how to take care of my mouth and just dismissed me.VERY condesending!

I was so disgusted by this that I sought the opinion of another dentist . They were wonderful! They did extensive X-rays and exams, but said that they didn't need to because she could SEE all the cavities!!

OK, so getting to the point..

I now need a root canal on several teeth (which might have avoided if they had actually listened to me!) and I am going to, even with insurance, have to come up with thousands of dollars to pay for it. I have been in pain for months and am going to endure even more now.

I am really upset and stressed out about this. It's the principal of the thing. They let someone needlessly suffer and cost them alot of money and for what??? They aren't the most expensive, but the phrase," You get what you pay for " definately applies here

Dentists like those guys are the reason that people are so terrified to go in the first place. They should truly be ashamed of themselves!
