It was about 17 years ago. Dr. Carpenter performed a lateral patella release on my knees which had been dislocating since childhood. This operation was hopefully finally going to end my nightmares of never knowing when my kneecaps would dislocate. However, something did not go right. My kneecaps dislocated constantly after the operation. I called reapeatedly and tried to get in to see him, and he refused to see me until my two week appointment. The situation became so unbearable, I finally rented a wheelchair so I could get around and care for my 6-month-old baby. I arrived at his office two weeks later in the wheelchair. Upon seeing me in the chair, he blamed everything on me, and how I did not want to get well or I wouldn't have gotten myselft a wheelchair. Finally before I left, he gave me some inserts to sew into the braces he gave me and some different exercises. I struggled for months, doing these new exercises, and trying to relearn walking (I would walk up and down the driveway and inside the house with a cain sweating the whole time due to the pain. I added weights to the exercises and do several of them a day. Finally I was able to function again. I believe this doctor has retired now, but either way, stay away. Also note. Years later, he tried to charge me again for the braces.
