Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend them to my friends or family. One thing that's been so annoying about Canterbury House, is that they always end up postponing my appointments. I'm usually not even notified that they're going to postpone it until less than an hour before my scheduled appointment. My appointments get canceled here a lot. I usually just go to someone else in the area because I can't count on them ever. They made no attempt to follow up with me after my appointment. It isn't a big deal, but it does say something about the overall atmosphere of the office. I wasn't too impressed with their level of service. It wasn't terrible but I think that I probably could've gotten better service somewhere else.
I my clinical study when I was training to become a CNA, and I would not send anyone I loved here. The treatment that the residents received from the trained and certified staff was repulsive and sometimes borderline abusive. You don't see what goes on in these things because when the state inspectors or families come, the people put on their best behavior. But when they're not there, it's terrible. And it wasn't just me that thought this. As I spoke to fellow trainees we were all repulsed and puzzled. Some of the things that we saw the CNAs we shadowed doing were simply disrespectful to the patients and their rights and others were harmful. Some of things I saw should merit removal of their CNA licenses. The staff was negligent and verbally abusive, and they hardly paid any attention to the residents. They would also neglect simple things, such as putting the covers back on the residents, even when the resident would complain that they were cold. It's TERRIBLE.
