A family member of ours has been at the Cary Health and Rehab Ctr. for two weeks now. Although we keep hearing that the physical therapy is top notch (M-F, not six days a week as they advertise), the facility is sub-standard as is the care provided to residents in the evenings and weekends.

They are severely short-staffed, and my family member has fallen twice because no one came to help him go to the bathroom when he pushed the red button that should call an LPN right away. They cram two patients in each room, which is excrutiatingly small, and there are no chairs (or even space) for family members to sit when they visit. The building itself is in need of renovations, which we've heard are to begin soon.

The weekends are far worse because there is no physical therapy, and there are even fewer staff members there to assist patients. My family member and his roommate have told us that it's a far better place during the week, when there are medical specialists (RNs and PTs) there.

It costs $209 per day for most patients, yet it feels like the cheapest motel you'd find at Carolina Beach. We were warned by family members before we chose this facility, but we continued to hear that the PT they provide is the best around, which is why we chose it anyway.

We have heard that all rehab centers are this way, so perhaps this is the sad norm we simply have to deal with. I haven't had other experiences to compare this one to, so I don't know if what we are dealing with is the norm.

I can simply say that I would never want to be there myself. It is a most depressing place that is overcrowded and short-staffed.

No, they close exactly on schedule despite any circumstances

Not at all! I had to schedule an appointment for absolutely everything!

Never. I don't think they care about helping their clients save money

I would not suggsest this place for anybody. My grandmother was admitted here in 2007 and the nursing staff was horrible. She had a feeding tube in which was no longer needed because she was taking whole foods and the nursing staff was putting whole pills in her tube rather than crushing them, thus she wasnt getting her medicine. She wasnt even supposed to be getting medicine through a tube. Then when the tube came out they popped it back in. This place disgusts me. Horrible neglicience. I truley beleive if it werent for this place my grandmother would still be around, and the dr. that saw her after that day thinks so as well. (She died a week later after that incident because of a stomach aneurism) Sad to say the whole pills were discovered in her feeding tubes, however nothing was ever written down in her chart... suprise. I guess they know how to cover there butts.
