Top 10 Chiropractic Myths Debunked

1. Myth: Chiropractic adjustments are dangerous.

FACT: Studies have shown that Chiropractic adjustments are safer than many common activities like salon shampooing, break dancing and gazing at stars.

2. Myth: Prescription and non-prescription drugs are safe.

FACT: Adverse reactions to properly prescribed medications are the third leading cause of death in America.  Chiropractic care offers a safe, drug-free alternative to many ailments.

3. Myth: Once you go to the Chiropractor, you’ll always have to go.

FACT: Regular adjustments are a part of a healthy lifestyle.  The choice to continue is yours.

4. Myth: Chiropractic care is not effective.

FACT: It’s the largest drug-free healthcare profession in the world.  Millions of people have benefited from regular Chiropractic care including: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tiger Woods, Lance Armstrong, Christie Brinkley, Emmit Smith, Joe Montana and many others.

5. Myth: Children don’t need Chiropractic adjustments.

FACT: Children can benefit from Chiropractic care for many of the same reasons that adults benefit.  Childbirth stress, bedwetting, colic, asthma etc. are all conditions regularly improved when treated by a Doctor of Chiropractic.  Chiropractic care is safe for children of all ages, including babies.

6. Myth: Childhood bumps and bruises are harmless.

FACT: OSHA estimates that a child sustains 1,500 spinal related traumas before the age of 5.  Regular chiropractic care can help minimize and correct those adverse effects.

7. Myth: Chiropractors aren’t real doctors.

FACT: Chiropractic students receive 4,485 hours of college classroom instruction vs. 4,248 hours for other medical students.  Chiropractors complete a 4 year pre-medical undergraduate degree prior to completing 4 more years of Chiropractic school.

8. Myth: It’s safe and beneficial to perform self-adjustments.

FACT: While self-adjustments can give temporary relief and a false sense of correcting the problem, it is not a specific segmental adjustment to correct a vertebral subluxation.  Self-adjusting regularly will cause you bigger problems in the long run.

9. Myth: Your bones grind against each other during an adjustment.

FACT: The noise is the release of gas from the spinal joints that creates the popping sound you hear after the adjustments.  Noise-free, instrument-assisted methods are available.

10. Myth: Chiropractic care is expensive.

FACT: Many health insurance plans actually offer an option for chiropractic coverage because they have statistically quantified the benefits of preventative care versus drugs and surgery.  The cost of sickness is more expensive than regular Chiropractic care. And most chiropractors offer very reasonable payment plans for those who do not have health insurance that covers chiropractic care. Some chiropractors can be as affordable as $20 per adjustment.

Both of my grandmothers, from about age 30 to near the end of their lives, were dedicated patients of Dr. Horn in Corsicana, Texas. He treated them at home when necessary. Either of them would cloud up and rain all over anyone who made a negative comment about Dr. Horn. Their benefits from chiropractic care resulted in many of our family receiving wonderful healing results over many decades since the 1940's.
I have received highly effective care for several problems over a period of more than 60 years. Most negative reactions I have encountered throughout my adult life are simply ignorance due to an individual simply making no effort to learn the truth about chiropractic.
