Although we are all in the midst of a cancer pandemic, there is at present no reason to suggest that any of us (including you, the reader) has to succumb to this disease. In fact, the majority of the scientific evidence presently available on the etiology (source) of cancer suggests that cancer is induced by external or environmental factors.
Cancer, in other words, isn't (like death or taxes) an unavoidable, ubiquitous dilemma.
What is more important to note is the fact that some people never develop cancer. If the people that never develop cancer or are less likely to develop cancer didn't have significant things in common, then we might have to admit that whether we develop cancer or not is, unfortunately, a mere craps game--i.e., something hinging on mere chance and, essentially, out of our control. But that is fortunately not the case.
The people who appear to display lower risks of developing cancer or who never develop cancer do indeed generally display certain characteristics. In general, these people eat a well-balanced diet that includes organically or naturally-grown foods not containing the many chemicals commonly found in so-called modern diets; the foods that they eat have also been minimally processed or exposed to such things as food irradiation, microwaving, frying or excessive cooking--especially if involving nitrosamine-containing burned foods.
These people have espoused, followed or adhered to one or more of the following cancer prevention strategies:
- They made sure that they weren't nutritionally deficient. Studies have shown that people who go on to develop cancer are often deficient in important nutrients like Vitamin D and Vitamin C. In fact, there are experts who continue to believe that cancer is a nutritional-deficiency disease--there is a ton of research to support their convictions.
- They have taken anti-cancer nutritional supplements. There are literally dozens of different substances (mostly of a "natural" type, such as special herbs and plants) that are believed to prevent or treat cancer. Do your own research to see which of these supplements you may want to start taking.
- They haven't over-exposed themselves to the sun or sun-tanning treatments. There is strong evidence to suggest that over-exposure to skin-damaging rays can lead to the type of inflammation/irritation that can lead to skin and other forms of cancer.
- They filtered the water they used everyday. Water today (even in developed countries) is either polluted with pathogens or dangerous chemicals. This includes water you use for bathing, cooking, shaving, etc. Filtering your water can help protect you from many potentially-dangerous carcinogens.
- They have kept to a minimun exposure to ionizing radiation, especially from X-rays and CT-scans. Make no mistake, ionizing radiation is one of the most effective ways to unnaturally induce cancer. Reducing your exposure to such, therefore, is a common-sense way to reduce your chances of getting cancer.
- They have avoided consuming known carcinogens as much as possible. Do your own research to find out what substances in the products people use everyday are suspected cancer-inducing materials. We know, for example, that nitrates/nitrites used in the preserving of packaged meats cause cancer--accordingly, stay away from foods that use these preservatives. Better choices are foods labeled as "nitrates/nitrites-free" foods.
- They have greatly reduced their exposure to microwaves. One of the sources you may be overlooking are cell phones and Wi-Fi, especially the one being piped into your home or place of work. Although we don't know how damaging to our cells microwave-using air signals are in the long-run, many experts think that microwaves may be involved in the cancer pandemic. This, of course, may include microwaved foods. Just because microwaves are different from ionizing radiation, by the way, doesn't necessarily mean that they are as harmless as you've been told. There are studies that suggest otherwise.
- They haven't overcooked their food. When you overcook food, not only do you reduce its nutritional value, but you may be creating such carcinogenic things as nitrosamines.
- They have avoided things known to cause inflammation within the body. The scientific community strongly suspects that sources of inflammation are directly connected with the development of cancer.
- They have avoided excessive acidity. We know that excessive acidity in the body can be very unhealthy, possibly being one of the reasons for developing cancer.
- They have kept alcoholic consumption to a minimum. Alcohol has many detrimental effects, including the capacity to possibly induce or exacerbate cancer.
- They have given up or never started smoking. Cigarette smoking continues to be one of the surest ways to one day develop cancer. Second-hand smoke, by the way, is also a known culprit.
- They have avoided, as much as possible, oxidative effects in the body. One of the most effective things you can do to avoid getting cancer is by taking anti-oxidants. Oxidative stress in the body may not be completely avoidable but you can certainly reduce it potential harmfulness.
Conclusion
Stop listening to anyone out there that says that you can't prevent cancer. The people who say these things may have their own dark agendas or they may just be succumbing to the notion that cancer, like death and taxes, is a natural condition which no human being can take steps to avoid or, at the very least, greatly reduce the chances of getting.
For your part, don't subscribe to such pessimistic, non-scientific perspectives.
Instead, realize that there is nothing natural about cancer. In fact, the majority of the evidence strongly suggests that cancer is a complication of modern-day living--in essence, one of the prices we are paying for the many conveniences of modern technology. There is nothing to suggest, though, that you or any of your family members HAVE to get cancer.
Reducing or eliminating your chances of getting cancer, though, isn't like playing the lottery. You have more control that you think (or you've been told). Start by considering the 13 suggestions in this article. Healthy living is a proactive (not a reactive) approach.
You are in control and cancer can be prevented. Accept these two propositions and your odds of beating this devastating disease may be greatly improved--assuming, of course, that you take an aggressive approach to protecting your own health!
