Is watching TV before bed a bad idea?

I've grown up with a TV in my room and always fell asleep to the TV being on. For a few years I removed the TV from my room and only recently have added the TV back. I fall asleep nightly to the TV being on, but don't know if it's a healthy way of falling asleep. For me the TV gives the white noise that I need to help clear my mind, it also seems to help me ignore the constant thoughts of what I didn't get done that day.

Does anyone know if falling asleep to the TV a bad idea? Am I causing unneeded sleep problems?

Try decompressing, relaxing, or whatever you need to do before you go to bed. It might take some getting use to but will provide me a good nights rest in the future.

I do the same thing but I have read over and over again that sleeping with the tv on is a bad idea. It's comforting like you said but it does not promote a quality sleep. Try setting it to go off in an hour or two. I end up dreaming about stuff that is on tv and the constant flashing from the screen can be disturbing. Talk radio may work better. I used to do that but since I moved to California all I can get are Mexican radio stations on my little clock radio. I hope that helps a little.
