Would you ever eat and drink a lot of sugar, let it bathe your teeth 24 hours a day for days on end, never brushing and never visiting a dentist? That's foolish, you'd say, and everyone would agree.
It's much smarter to take positive, preventive steps like reducing sugar, brushing after each meal and getting regular dental checkups than to deal with drilling and pulling later.
Imagine making all the wrong choices for your health. First, be sure not to lift a finger, then eat enormous quantities of foods high in animal fats and salt; smoke at least a pack of cigarettes a day and make sure your job and family life is full of stress.
Just like dental care, practicing a healthy life style can ward off disease. Exercising often, eating whole foods with including healthy fats and oils, and sticking to a variety of raw fruits and vegetables, coupled with a strategy for handling stress, a person can add years to his or her life.
Where did we get the idea that good health and vitality should come easy, without any effort? Who said we could sit back and be free from disease and illness forever?
Nobody. Our life is a precious gift, but it doesn't come with any guarantees. Nobody promised we would never wake up feeling crummy. Nobody said we would always be able to do the things we used to do. Nobody said health is easy.
So, why are we surprised that we have to work hard for good health? The quicker we accept that we must work for it, the quicker we will start making a difference. We only get one body and now is the time to start taking care of it. Have no doubt, if we choose to ignore our health, it will go away.
Don't take it for granted: What we do to our bodies now makes a significant difference to our future health. Your life style should be designed to add life to your years and years to your life.
Consider the five pillars of health:
* What foods are you eating? * How about exercise, is it adequate? * Is your body functioning optimally? Turn to chiropractic for spinal function and posture restoration. * Is your body getting the rest it requires to thrive? * And how is your mental attitude and spiritual state? Is it up to the task of keeping desire and hope alive and well?
Just about everybody can do better. It's never too late to develop a plan to strengthen your weak points, while making prevention your focus of attention. If you need a little incentive to get you started, just act like your life depends on it, because it does!
