They were extremely argumentative and became angry very easily. I was trying to explain my situation and they just contradicted everything I was saying before I could finish. I wasn't greeted at all when I entered their office. I could tell they noticed I walked in, but they still didn't acknowledge me. They made no attempt to follow up with me after my appointment. They thought I was making up seizures (when I had catamenial epilepsy); they made me think I was crazy. This was in the early 70s--before MRIs, CAT scans. For years, they made me think I was crazy--until I had a convulsive seizure at Vanderbilt while hooked up to an EEG. When no meds, no combinations, no dosages worked, well, I was crazy. Well, with technology and new neurologist, I was scheduled for brain surgery at UVA, but I had a stroke during the WASA. When we retired, we moved to St. Augustine, FL. At Shands (U. of FL) in Jacksonville, I underwent 24-hour video-monitoring, EEG 224-hours, dropped cold from meds, and no sleep. All seizures were recorded; some radioactive injection was given ASAP post-ictal. I did have a focal point. I had a Right temporal lobe resection in 2005; I am still on a few AEDs, but dropping Keppra slowly; if all goes well, we'll try to drop Lamictal. No seizures since surgery. I was not crazy. You shouldn't have laughed at my calendar of seizures that correlated to my menstrual cycles. You made my life very hard after I had my first seizures at age 23, two grand mal seizures. Dr. deBeck was the worst; he never looked at me. I was asked "How was my marriage?" (married to same husband 42 years now. "How did I feel about blood?" Since my seizures were around a menstrual cycle. You never believed me. You never believed me. You never believed me.
It isn't a big deal, but it does say something about the overall atmosphere of the office. Everything I told them seemed to go in one ear and out the other. I didn't feel like they cared about what I had to say at all.
