We have just come back from Eye Care Assoc of Brevard after seeing Dr Raymond A Hermida, DO. This was our third trip there. I’ll explain below:
The date of her first exam was July 18, 2016. During that exam he told us that Hailey’s eyes were getting better and he was decreasing her prescription down one level. Her level hasn’t changed since she was 10. She is now 16. Last July it was still the same, and then in Jan she went for her contact exam which matched her glasses. We assumed the doctor knew what he was talking about. Also, I have told this doctor that my daughter has had her contact exam in Jan. He has her put contacts in that he gave her. She came in wearing glasses since it was an exam for glasses. We assumed that this was part of the exam. We get up to the desk and are asked for a $60 payment for the contact exam. I told the girl at the desk that we didn’t ask for that, and that she has her contacts done elsewhere. They did take it off, but we felt that we were being scammed.
Forward to Aug 1st. we go in to pick up her glasses. The girl at the desk just hands them to her, no checking for fit or to see if she was seeing properly. Our daughter said they seem off. Take into consideration that she is shy and doesn’t give adults any problem. The girl at the desk that gave my daughter her glasses, told her that this was normal, since the prescription went down 2 levels, not one like we were told, and that she would have to get use to it.
We leave, and she is getting a headache right off. We pull up to the stop sign, and she can’t even read the street sign right across the street from us. I go right back in and Dr. Hermida sends her to the chair to be re-examined. I told him after this mess up I want the prescription that is in her other glasses put into this one as well. He took several others in when he heard we had issues and made us wait until the office was empty. When he finally did get to us he was very huffy, going into his private office and slamming the door, and just treating both of us like we were pond scum. With the attitude of “I’m the doctor” you don’t know crap. He wanted us to keep the glasses and keep trying, when she can’t even see. I told him NO redo them. We were told he would call when they were done.
The girl from the front desk called our house shortly after to tell us they were done. My daughter and I were out shopping for school and too far to make it to his office that day before the office closed. So we went in today, Aug 3. Again, she is just given the glasses, again no checking to see if they fit or if she can see better. Our daughter said that she can see but they aren’t right something was off. She thought it was the new frames. I told her to wear them for the rest of the day. To which Dr. Hermida says no she shouldn’t. This is supposedly the same prescription as all of her other glasses, and it’s supposed to be right. She has always just put the new ones on and not had any issues. Both my husband and I wear glasses and have not had the issues she was describing. On our way home her head is hurting AGAIN. So we go to the optometrist that gave her the glasses she came in with, and to the optometrist that did her contacts. Both glasses were read by the doctors and yes the prescription was right, but both said that the PD was off in one eye, by 55. And the other was off as well which is what would cause the problem right off.
Back we go, this time I’m totally ticked off. Dr, Hermida was all smiles until I said “We have a big problem” He gets huffy and grunting as he stomps off and throw his hands in the air. After the office clears of patients again, he tells Hailey to get in the chair, as he stomps into his private office and slams the door again. He comes in and I told him right off we went to two doctors to have the glasses checked, and that the PD was off. He goes “I know what the PD is”. At this point I said I wasn’t dealing with this, he goes to the front desk and completely ignores me completely, working on paperwork of patients that have come in. I told him he was going to have to deal with me and refund the money to medicare so that my daughter could go to someone that knew what they were doing. He got really nasty that everyone that was in the office was looking at him, not me. He starts yelling “we are done here” over and over” I told him I was turning this in to medicare, and he told me to go right ahead. I also told him I would be doing the reviews on line, and on Facebook, to which he said he didn’t care he isn’t on there.
So now my daughter has a pair of glasses that she can’t even wear/see out of that medicare paid for.
It seems that he treats all of the patients the same way. Not one of the people there that came to pick up their glasses were checked for correctness. I don’t know how their glasses were, but I know this hasn’t happened to us before. There is NO EXCUSE for this type of behavior or lack of professionalism.
