I was so excited to go all the way to Maine from Phoenix, AZ for this seemingly wonderful yoga retreat. I am a full time student and single working mother, so this was supposed to be my first vacation in quite some time.
To begin, shortly before the retreat I took a 30k paycut so politely asked if I could back out and obtain a refund of $850, which I paid for 2 months in advance. The office manager, Mickey, said that if my spot was filled I could get a $700 CREDIT, so I decided to just go! I bought my plane tickets ($750) and was excited for the 16 hour journey that included a 9 hour plane trip and 7 hours of buses and cabs to this rural retreat on the other side of the country.
Well the day before I was supposed to leave I start to feel sick. The next day, I woke up with a 102 temperature, chills, aches, and a sore and swollen throat. I wrote an email to Mickey to tell her I would not be coming, and the next day I started vomiting, and was relieved I didn't take a chance and hop on the airplane.
Apparently, due to the size of the retreat, I am not allowed a refund nor credit. i think this is unfair as this company SAVED money without me being there, and on top of it have an extra $850. I think even a partial credit would be sufficient, at least the money it would have cost themm to have me stay there. I offered reputable references, to no avail.
As a YOGA retreat, one would think that this company would have better business ethics and understand that MOST people attend retreats to get away from this kind of nonsense.
Just warning you... make sure nothing comes up.
