In the interest of full disclosure, I should say that I only saw Dr. Manz once before I decided that we would not be a good fit. It may be beneficial for others to try to see her at least twice before coming to that conclusion.
My impression is that she's a warm person and interested in the well-being of others, but our particular interaction was not what I was looking for. I didn't feel like she was really listening to what I was saying, and her responses felt a little forced. She also had informed me that our session would be an hour long and it ended up only being 45 minutes which was a surprise. In general, I didn't feel much empathy or understanding during our session, but I think it was as simple as us just not clicking. However, I think she does have a lot of good qualities as a practitioner and she would likely be a great fit for someone else.
My daughter was treated by Dr. Manz for three years. We met her at Long Island Jewish Hospital where she was my daughter's individual therapist during her year long treatment in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. We were fortunate that Dr. Manz began to practice privately after that so my daughter was able to continue her treatment until she went to away to college.
I will be forever indebted to her skill, sense of humor, acceptance and competence. She was able to not only help my daughter, but myself as well, which greatly affected my daughter's outcome, especially our capacity to have a mother-daughter relationship. I recommend her without any reservations and with the highest regard.
Why I put almost put a 4 for punctuality: She is extremely punctual, but there were few times when her flexibility and attentiveness to patient's needs caused her to go over time, but for me that is a good reason to sit in a waiting room. Therapy is not an exact science, it is an art which Dr. Manz practices with grace, imagination and expertise. She is also extremely knowledgable about medication and was very helpful in my daughter's medication issues. Though I am happy to say the she is currently doing very well without medication.
