Dr. Cohen is the best! He is one of the country's 5 specialists in my rare disease, Acromegaly, yet he also is the most caring, diligent and available doctor I ever visited for any condition, even just routine visits to my GP. My prior endocrinologist discouraged questions and I could never seem to understand his answers anyway. Not so with Dr. Cohen. He often made direct follow up calls to me at home just to see how I felt after certain changes to my medication. One time he called me later the evening of an appointment because he noticed my blood pressure was really high. Can you believe it? He just wanted me to know and to keep an eye on it until my next monthly visit with my GP.
During his care my condition became stable for the first time since I was sick, and clearly his care was along completely different lines that my prior endocrinologist whom I later learned did NOT have any experience with my disease, specifically.
With an estimate of only 50 living victims of Acromegaly in the U.S., Dr. Cohen clearly is NOT following the money but rather a growing component of his industry's need. How many doctors can such a rare disease support, with only 50 patients - not all of whom live all that long? The answer is, none. Doctor Cohen is a great doctor and a great human being, having responded to my emails and/or phone calls three times, after which he drafted fantastic letters in response to various inquiries and investigations on my behalf (e.g. Disability Hearing)..
Also, Dr. Cohen's inner staff is wonderful. Usually it is 2 nurses and an office manager and it is obvious how much they like and respect him. That in itself is quite telling. HOWEVER, do not be put off by his office's shared outer staff, that runs the waiting room or whatever it is they do. They are the worst example of customer service professionals or really any staff that I have ever seen, from the women at the window to the office manager -- all hostile and uncompromising. Clearly any investigation into their issues would result in staff reductions and terminations no matter how much tenure they hold. From lies to open contempt, if I hadn't been one of the many victims of their hostility it would have been laughable. Yet I was. To me it actually seems as if they are purposely trying to sabotage Dr. Cohen's and the other doctors' practices to lessen their workload.
