I am a perimenopausal woman with migraine headaches that have been debilitating. Unfortunately, I went to Dr. Maccio for help. I cannot tell you how much I wished I would have walked away on March 9th, 2015 instead of taking her advice. She did not have any real concernsabout the hormonal headaches that had gripped my life but instead focused on my uterus full of fibroids that she could see. She called me into her office almost excited to tell me about a treatment that she thought would benefit not only my fibroids but perhaps my headaches: depo provera. Here I was on the 7th to 9th day in my cycle, the very time in which I have been overwhelmed with headaches so bad that I can do nothing but lay in bed, in spite of the "migraine medicine" I have been prescribed by a couple of physicians, and I so desperately I took that shot. Told nothing more than it may cause bone loss with extended use and could cause abnormal bleeding. On April 3, 2015, I started bleeding (a period I thought which turned out to be not a period but my uterine lining being gone) and as of July 22nd I was still bleeding. I went to another doctor and was told you never give depo provera to periomenopausal women with fibroids because of the risk of excessive and prolonged bleeding which every doctor knows can cause a HUGE loss of iron and lead to serious health concerns including heart attack and stroke. I wish I had the words to express how angry I am at the moment. I wish I could sue both the doctor and the drug maker. I never remotely bargained for 4 to 5 months of bleeding. Since 7/22, I have been on Norathindrone to stop the bleeding and it is making me want to rip the ceiling off the wall. My sister died last July from cervicial cancer. I wrote this doctor and told her how upset I was that she could prescribe this horrible horrible nightmare of a drug which has utterly ruined my life, and she has not responded of course. I want everyone to know what this doctor did which in my book was really ignorant and what this drug does. I have not read much about depo provera that would render it anything other that really bad medicine and very bad new for women. This woman does not have your back, believe me
Very nice and generally helpful. I usually make my appointment at the end of the day and they seem to always run late and I have to wait about 30 to 45 minutes past my appointment time. I would suggest making appointments earlier in the day so the wait is not so long as by the end of the day, I feel they try to "squeeze" me in even after I have made an appointment and I feel a bit rushed rather than taking the time for me. I only go there once a year so maybe I have just had bad luck the past three or four years with the day I schedule my appointment. Other than that, it is all good.
