Minimal intervention. Answers all questions. I'm still alive a quarter of a century later.

I read good reviews of Dr. Carlis and switched to him with my HMO plan. Big mistake. He is arrogant and unhelpful. His staff is wonderful, but they aren't the doctor. I was really sick and ended up in the ER multiple times. He showed no compassion for me as I laid there on the table unable to sit up because I was too sick. He brushed me off as having panic attacks. I ended up in the ER again a few days later. I saw the same ER doctor twice and he couldn't believe anyone would pass off my serious symptoms as panic attacks. He told me I needed to switch doctors because this guy is going to harm me with his inaction. It turns out I have a serious illness. He barely even looked at me when I was in there and he acted irritated by my questions. He refused to order testing for me while I was waiting a long time to see a specialist even though I had the signs of the disease. He said the insurance wouldn't let him order those labs. I called my insurance company and they said he SHOULD have ordered them and he was just refusing to. The specialists office also said he should have ordered them and they expected me to come in with all that labwork done by my primary doctor so the specialist could get a quicker diagnosis. She said most of their patients with my disease show up with all or most of the labs done and then the specialist confirms the diagnosis and starts treatment. I asked him about hormones affecting some of my symptoms and he said it " wasn't a reality" that hormones could cause my symptoms and looked at me as if I was a nut. And yet I have a hormone disease that causes them! How can he not know about basic things like that? It's not like I have something really rare that nobody has heard of. There are about 5 different diseases that involve hormones that can cause all of my symptoms!!!! How can he not know that? I want a doctor who knows something and if they don't know are willing to learn and grow, not bristle because they are confused by my symptoms. If you have a cold or a hurt leg, I'm sure he is fine, but beyond his scope of knowledge he isn't going to try to help you and don't come in knowing anything or having too many questions God forbid. He told me that Googling is dangerous. Oh brother! Well if the doctor would do his job I wouldn't have to Google now would I?
