My teenage son waited months,while Levine was on vacation, to get a first appointment. Fifteen minutes into the appointment, after Levine had listened to my son's description of his depression and anxiety (which he hadn't shared with anyone outside the family until that moment), he said that my son's whining made him "feel like strangling" him. My son ran home, traumatized by the doctor's behavior. I could barely believe that a mental health professional would say anything like this, but Levine called me to see how my son was doing after leaving the office so abruptly, and I asked him if he had indeed said this. He said, Yes--he thought the shock it would produce in my son might help shake him out of his deep depression. I told him that it had exactly the opposite effect. Later that month, I received the insurance company's statement that Levine had billed his usual rate for the full session. I am appalled by this person, who calls himself a mental health professional.
