Dr. Metz came highly recommended and was very thorough in his examination. He also goes the extra mile to take care of his patients--he called me after office hours to discuss my case, for instance. However, some of his knowledge on diet for a healthy heart and approaches for treating my heart ailment seem outdated. After he recommended an invasive procedure, I sought a second opinion. I'm glad I did. Not only was the arsenal of very strong medication that was prescribed by Dr. Metz considerably reduced (to an aspirin only), I was also discouraged from proceeding with the surgery that Dr. Metz had recommended. The 2nd cardiologist that I saw stated that it was too soon to consider such invasive treatment. Fortunately, I heeded the second doctor's advice, reduced the medications I was on, and did not proceed with the surgery. Today, I feel great and the symptoms that caused me to see Dr. Metz in the first place have disappeared. My experience underscores the importance of trusting your inner voice and seeking a second opinion. I'm thankful I did. As a side note, the Penrose Hospital office that Dr. Metz works out of is staffed with very nice people. Unfortunately, the office itself is very unorganized, so it's important that you're diligent about following up about your records and making sure that information that is sent to them is received and correctly processed.
