We were referred to Dr. Petrillo by the surgeon who performed my mothers many complicated surgeries following a terrible auto accident.
He presented himself as a holistically inclined DR.
From day 1, my poor mother's needs and concerns were completely dismissed. She had Chris Reeve like injuries and was on a breathing machine....Something we later found out, that they were not supposed to admit to the rehab.
Everything wrong occurred, from dropping my mother from her hoyer to, just plain not caring for her. Firstly, the bed sores were completely terrible and only got worse with every bout of infection she got. From pneumonia, to C-Diff. I cannot even remember how many times she had these infections.
We felt that mom was a guinea pig from day one. They may have had a physical therapist, and the psychologist but nothing they did helped..They were just not equipped, or trained for my mom's case. To sum the care up, I will relay a very short story. On the last week before mom passed away, she told me that she was dying. Immediately went to the doctor, who by the way was extremely difficult to talk to. He always seemed very demeaning to all of us. I voiced mom's concerns and I also suggested that I believed she once again had the C-Diff. infection. He spoke to her in a very negetive tone, grabbed her bad arm, and told her that all the tests that had been run showed she was fine..He then mentioned to me, that the C-Diff. cannot be determined without tests by a doctor! Turned out, she did indeed have C-Diff. She passed away about a week after my talking to him. An autopsy was never done, we wanted mom to have some diginity. He was rude, insensitive, and most importantly NOT prepared for mother's case, even though he promised us the world!
