I went to this office, based on a recommendation from a friend, with a very specific problem. Dr. Nelson's office is not equipped to do ultrasounds so after my first appointment I was referred for further testing at an additional office. After three weeks, I was finally able to get my results from Dr. Nelson.

As I entered her office three weeks later, I went in the restroom and similar to my first visit, there were other patients' urine samples lining the bathroom (with patient names on them--a direct violation of HIPAA). I had mentioned it discreetly to the staff upon my first visit, mainly because I knew the staff not collecting samples in a timely manner could possibly cause trouble for Dr. Nelson who may not even be aware it is happening.

Upon my second visit, I tried again to discreetly tell the staff--as physician could be up a creek if their staff violates the terms set by HIPAA. I am not a huge rules person but I know how damaging that could be for a practice. I went to the check-out window so patients in the waiting room wouldn't overhear. The receptionist just stared at me blankly without saying a word. I repeated myself in slightly more detail so she would understand what I was talking about. The nurse "in charge" of collecting the samples overheard, shot me a dirtily look, said something curt, and walked away. She was then rude to me for the rest of my appointment. It seems to me that if she has too great a work load to pick up the samples, that job should be reallocated. I in no way meant offense but was treated exceptionally poorly.

I then went into a room with Dr. Nelson to receive my results. She didn't have the actual images of my ultrasound. She only had a reading of the images, done by another physician. Based on her little information, she told me that I had a giant cyst needing removal. She also told me, without ever seeing the cyst, that she may even have to remove an ovary. She then told me that I needed a blood test to make sure I didn't have cancer before she operated because she didn't want to get in there and have an "Oh s*it moment." That is a direct quote. I began to cry while Dr. Nelson, without taking a breath, continued to reiterate that I might have cancer, I wandered the exam lane looking for a tissue that was not offered to me while she unloaded the unfounded yet traumatic information.

After continuing to be treated coldly by the staff, I checked out, and went down stairs for my blood test.

They called the following week to ask me to come in for my blood test results. I knew that based on my symptoms and the size of my cyst, that my test results would cause her to refer me to a cancer specialist. Keep in mind, this doctor has still never actually seen a photo of my cyst and is basing all of her cancer talk off of a reading that was not done by her. The test is one that commonly measures levels that are "elevated" if there is any benign cyst within one's body. It is in no way and accurate detection of cancer.

I decided to transfer care to a specialist. I didn't want to chance an "oh sh*t moment" with my body. As I told the receptionist that I was transferring care, Dr. Nelson, instructed the receptionist to read the test results over the phone to me without my consent. She then reiterated that she was, in fact going to refer me to a cancer specialist. All this information was given to me by a receptionist over the phone.

I later went to a fibroid and endometriosis specialist for my problem and within 45 minutes he had given me an ultrasound, told me I was completely healthy, and sent me on my way. He found the fact that I was going to be referred to an oncologist laughable.

Overall, this was a rough experience. I would say, if you are going in for a routine Pap, this office is fine. I would highly discourage receiving care here for an actual problem. In addition to the lack of professionalism in the treatment by the staff, they accidentally over charged me for my visit, told me on site, and have yet to return the funds. My experience with this office was over a year ago. They have had ample time with more than one reminder. I just count it a loss so I can cut my ties.

This is the first negative review I've ever written for anything. I let a good bit of time pass to make sure I wasn't just reacting to a frustrating experience. I believe health care is a service industry as well as a medical industry and there are enough offices that do it well that I would me remiss to not save someone the hassle of spending their hard earned money at an office that wouldn't provide the quality care they are looking for.

I was seen almost as soon as I walked in the door. I didn't have to reorganize my day around my appointment at all. They were one of the kindest, most caring staff I've ever dealt with. It didn't matter how many times I called with a question or concern, they were always happy to help me. I haven't seen any coupons or discounts for this provider's office, but I haven't really looked. They never mention anything about promotions when I'm there. Everyone in my community knows that they are the absolute best in the field.
