Laura Gaffney, MD, is an internist and pediatrician who focuses much of her patient care on adults with special needs. In addition to direct patient care, she is the medical director of AdventHealth Medical Group's Special Pediatric-to-Adult Need (SPAN) program. SPAN is Greater Kansas City’s only primary care program that provides comprehensive, patient-focused care for adults with a chronic condition that persists from childhood to adulthood. Dr Gaffney has been providing care for adults with special needs since 1996. My son and I went to Dr Gaffney years ago when my son was little. She is a good doctor but I found her abrasive. She called my son fat-yes he was overweight at the time. He no longer is. I understand not sugar coating a situation but I thought that was flat rude. I left the practice after that-looking back there were other situations she just did not seem professional to me. I hope she is more friendly these days.
