Well, I am forced to do it again. I don't review unless I REALLY feel the need to. We switched insurance plans about a month ago . We switched so my wife could continue going to this dentist as he was not part of our plan that we have had a for about a year now. However, it looks like the crown she needed is not part of the new plan. We paid more money in insurance so she could see him. Since the crown was part of our last plan we didn't think for a second our benefits changed for the worse. One point against my wife for not knowing.

Here is where I think that ends and they begin. They were given the new insurance. They knew the procedure. They knew the charges of the crown ($1300 per). Apparently no one in the office bothered to check AND no one informed my wife of the cost before the procedure.

Their website clearly states "Prior to the commencement of treatment, fees and financial arrangements will be discussed with you. "

I guess a $1300 charge that we are "on the hook" for was not worth discussion prior to treatment.

My wife called in good faith and asked if there was anything that can be done to reduce the cost...our insurance says that as of 2012 an average of 28% discount can be had for these kinds of services. Receptionist said..."he doesn't do that ever...you have three months to pay it...that is it".

She has been going there for years! I am really surprised by that attitude in this economy towards a loyal customer.

Had we known the $1300 cost ahead of time she could have lived without the crown for now. We are still trying to get a handle on the new costs of treatment for our recently diagnosed Type 1 Diabetic three year old. Test strips alone are $250 a month (plus insulin, syringes, plus etc.) The crown could have waited....Had we known!

I have a call into the dentist himself. I am hoping his receptionist is mistaken and I am hoping that he was unaware of exactly what is going on and is willing to work with us. Looking for a dentist in Glenview... I will report back when I know more.
