I have seen Dr. Marcia Johnson periodically over the past 6 years, for obstetric appointments. Overall, I have appreciated the work she does and have felt comfortable under her experienced care. This is no longer the case.

My experience is that she is either in a great mood, and is very willing and interested in answering questions and providing helpful feedback, or she is rather curt and highly critical of her patient. After my latest experience, I have decided not to see her again.

Background: I failed my 3 hour glucose tolerance test, and had my blood sugar checked at each appointment until delivery. The day I went for my latest appointment with Dr. Johnson (at 38 weeks), I had eaten a Subway sandwich for lunch (which I told the nurse) and my blood glucose read high at my appointment.

Dr. Johnson greeted me by coming in the door, asking "So you've made bad choices today, huh?" (No "Hi", "Hi, how are you feeling?", "How's it going?", nothing.) I asked what she meant, and she continued to ask, "Was Subway just calling your name, or what?" I told her I had eaten a turkey sandwich and didn't think it was that bad. She told me it was a terrible choice, especially considering that I knew I was coming to my appointment and would have my blood glucose tested. Ok...

When Dr. Johnson was checking for Baby's heartbeat, she couldn't find it. I became worried and my eyes started to well up. She looked at me and made a small chuckle. (Maybe she was nervous, too? Either way, I found it very unprofessional and unsettling.) She then admitted it was her mistake, that she had put too much gel on my abdomen and the doppler slipped. She ended up finding the heartbeat, thankfully!

The last straw from that appointment was my internal check. (Another bit of background: the day before my appointment, I had been to Labor and Delivery for a possible amniotic fluid leak, which turned out to be negative. During my trip to L & D, I had an internal check by the L & D staff and was informed that I had a centimeter more of dilation and significantly more thinning than during my office check the week before.) Dr. Johnson did my latest internal check and told me there was no progress from the prior week's appointment. I said, "Really? When I was at Labor and Delivery yesterday, they said I was X centimeters, and super thinned out." She sighed and did another internal check, only to say very curtly, "Yep, there's no change. There's no way they were right..."

I felt like I was treated very unprofessionally and will not be seeing Dr. Johnson again. (This is not the first time she was been curt and critical of me at an OB appointment, without a professional discussion of the concerning issue; this was, however, the last time. There are too many other exceptional and very professional doctors at OB-GYN P.C. for me to settle for Dr. Johnson.)
