I have never written a review of any professional before, because I've never been as horrified as I was at the dental care I received yesterday. I saw Dr. Blisko for a cleaning after 1.5 years of not going to the dentist. I confess I also don't floss much, and eat a lot of sweets, so I really needed a cleaning. After the hygienist took the x-rays, Blisko introduced himself. He actually appeared and sounded very professional at first, but then he proceeded to clean my teeth. I think he is very knowledgeable, but was not interested in spending a long time with me because I have the UFT's insurance which won't pay him much.
My prior dentist spent 45 minutes cleaning (actually the hyg did it, then he checked everything), and I've asked around and almost everyone says cleanings take over 30 minutes. Usually they use that scraping took to remove all plaque, brush, floss, pick, etc. That said I acknowledge that it's possible I simply had excellent dental care before, and that Blisko might just be an average and not unethical dentist, but either way you should avoid him! Blisko took a drill-like brush that was very sharp and "cleaned" my gums (it hurt a lot... and I have tiny bloody gashes now around many of my teeth). He then used an electric brush to clean the teeth for 60 seconds. In total, this process took 7-8 minutes, not including the x-rays. This is absurd. Additionally, instead of developing the x-rays, he held up tiny x-rays to the light. Maybe this is a different technology from my prior dentist, but I'm doubtful considering the rest of his performance. He reported that I had no cavities and could leave. He did advise me about which mouthwash to use.
Today, I called and asked a hygienist how long cleanings usually are. She confirmed that they usually last 10 minutes. So if you want clean teeth, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! The 42nd St. Dental has been recommended to me by many people. They take UFT insurance if you're a teacher. Don't be deceived by Blisko's location. The office looked decent and equipment seemed up to par, it's just that Blisko doesn't use it. Possibly the other dentist at the office is better, but probably better not to risk it.
To be frank, Dr. Blisko seems to me to be one unethical medical professionals I have encountered. Please take note of my mistake!!
