I found Micheala McCormick to be extremely rude and false about my daughters potential orthodontic situation. While discussing by phone about my daughters recommendations, she was extremely rude to me (parent) and stated that if I did not put braces on my daughter, "that I was a horrible father". She verbally told me that my daughters braces were a medical necessity. I asked her if there was some type of assessment or gauge to define my daughters medical necessity for orthodontia. She stated there was not. This was untrue as I later discovered that there actually is an assessment through medicaid that more than 40 states use to assess medical necessity. Dentists dont like to use this scale as it decreases the number of braces they sell. McCormick ortho does use this assessment and Micheala declined to inform me of this. I requested (by certified mail)some type of documentation from her regarding my daughters medical necessity and she declined to provide me with this. I later took my daughter for multiple opinions to other orthodontist that used the same scale that McCormicks and Medicare used. On a scale of 1 to 30 (above 20 is considered a medical necessity) my daughter scored an 8. This is called an "HLD score" and is approved by the American Dental Association. Its apparent why she declined to document her findings. Overall, I found McCormicks Ortho to be unprofessional, rude, and eager to put their hands in my pocket. They give dentistry a bad name. I also was having lunch in the town of Oxford PA in late 2014 and was sitting next to McCormick techs having lunch and overheard them talking of "recent case of thrush" that was believed to be contracted at their office. I would seriously consider multiple opinions on orthodontia and you will find how they vary and you can come to your own conclusions. McCormick's orthodontics opinion to the courts cast my family into a huge legal battle that almost cost me custody of my child by expressing her unaccountable recommendation to family court. I ended up getting braces for my daughter for approximately HALF of the cost McCormick's quoted me. I suggest multiple opinions in the matter of orthodontia for a good and fair decision for the care of your child. Dont be fooled by the presentation of your dental office. Afterall, you're paying for all the glitz and fishtanks at your local dentist in the services they provide. Buyer beware.
