I write this review in the hope that my family's experience with this office will not be repeated with another family. In my opinion, if you are looking for compassionate, appropriate care for you or your loved ones this is not the doctor for you. Dr. Smith diagnosed my elderly mother with inoperable, lung cancer from an x-ray and gave her the diagnosis OVER THE PHONE. She had never had cancer and had no obvious risk factors for cancer-this was a complete surprise. He had explicit instructions from my mother to relay all results to my sister who had been her liaison with Dr. Smith's office for 5-plus years. These instructions had always been followed previously. This time, he ignored them. His excuse was he "wanted to get the ball rolling". Two weeks later his office called to say they had scheduled an MRI. By that time she had been hospitalized, seen an oncologist and a pulmonologist, had an MRI and multiple other diagnostic procedures and was back home dealing with the reality of the situation. Both other doctors stated that such a diagnosis from an x-ray only was inappropriate. My mother died 9 weeks from the date of her diagnosis. Yes, she had cancer. Yes, it was advanced and going to take her life. However, a compassionate meeting in the doctor’s office with her family present to support her during those early hours of realization would have made an enormous difference in the mental and emotional quality of those last weeks of her life. She went from independent to totally dependent and requiring 24/7 care in the space of 72 hours. Dr. Smith's office has never called to follow up on her condition, never checked to see why we cancelled their too little, too late MRI, never called to discuss treatment or the fact she never returned to their office, and never acknowledged her death.
