PSA=4.7. My family physician felt an hard area in my prostate. Repeat PSA= 4.7. Dr Demby did a biopsy and it showed about one half the samples showing cancer. Prostate removed June 2002. The very next PSA test showed a reading (where it should have been "zero.") Prostate had been sliced and put on slides and sent to lab. Lab reported "no cancer" on slides. Other slides were prepared and sent to a different lab. Second lab reported "no cancer," on slides. Over the next four years my PSA increased, reaching 1.97 on 6/24/2008. Dr Demby recommended radiation. We went to Cedars Sinai for a second opinion. That second opinion was: "Absolutely no radiation, without hormone therapy first." We transferred healthcare to Cedars. After one year of hormone therapy (three shots, to shrink the size of the cancer) I was supposed to go to Los Angeles for radiation on a (new style) machine that was only available in Los Angles. A re-check of Las Vegas radiation doctors showed that one clinic in Las Vegas that had just had one of these new radiation machines installed. I received 44 radiation treatments there. PSA has read "zero" ever since (2016). So, my experience with this doctor (Demby) is that he failed to remove all of the cancerous prostate. Then to compound this error, he was going to send me for radiation "without" doing hormone treatment first (on an "old" style machine that was not the "best available.") Thank goodness for "up to date doctors and equipment" at Cedars Sinai. There is an old story which asks: "If you are a tourist in Las Vegas and you get seriously sick, where should you go? The answer is: "The airport." We wish we had heard this story before having my prostate removed by Doctor Demby.
