Just the fact that Dr. Boris made fun of my son's speech to his face during each of the visits we made to the office should be enough to make anyone think twice about sending your child there. My son even cried about it after the last session and he is 13. Is that what you think is professional behavior coming from a child psychiatrist?
I took my daughter to see Dr. Birmaher some years ago and we had an increasingly unpleasant experience working with him for approx. 6 months. For us, it gradually became clear that Dr. Birmaher has a very difficult time not being judgmental, as on multiple occasions he condemned my daughter for several life decisions she made, once MOCKING me for supporting her (which he then tried to pass off as a joke). Not appropriate. It seems as though his main mode of therapy is to try to intimidate patients and parents into believing that he is infallible and lapsing into shockingly childish behavior if proven otherwise. For a psychiatrist for adolescents, Dr. Birmaher behaves startlingly like an adolescent in need of therapy himself.
