I was refered to Dr. Sued by my general practice physician. When I called for an appointment I was told it would be a month. I wasn't happy with this but what could I do? About a week before I received a call reminding me of my appointment. The lady making the call asked me if I had registered, said that I was supposed to register with them a week before the appointment. She acted like I was supposed to know this. Nobody had told me this - as I told her. She said OK we will take care of it before my appointment. I arrived at my appt. early and filled out the paperwork. I sat back down - about 5 minutes later the receptionist called me up to the window and said "We cannot see you today because you were supposed to get a referral from your insurance." I explained that I had been refered by my doctor, that no one had told me anything that I needed to do anything else. The woman immediately took a really nasty offensive tone with me and asked me "Don't you understand your coverage?" I told her that I was used to all this being handled by the doctors and their staff, and said "I waited a month for an appointment and now you tell me I can't see the doctor? I am in pain here." At this point another receptionist chimed in "I find it hard to believe you waited a month" - basically she called me a liar! I then said I would not be coming back to this doctor and left. I am 58 years old and suffer from degenerative disc disease. I have been to lots of different doctors, but I have never been treated like this! I directly went over to my general practice doctor, and the lady I talked to there (billing specialist?) told me that there was no need for any other referral from insurance to see Dr. Sued, and she didn't see what could have caused a problem. She then called another pain management doctor, who is going to see me 2 days from now (instead of a month). I honestly can't say anything about Dr. Sued himself because I never got to see him. But I would avoid this medical practice like the plague. There is absolutely no reason to treat anybody the way I was treated here.
