Spinal cord stimulation

George Rappard, MD

In some cases, surgery or spinal pain management may not be successfull in alleviating a patient's pain. In those cases, spinal cord stimulation may be the answer. A wire is placed through a tiny hole in the skin and placed on the surface of the spinal cord. An electrical current runs through the wire and "tricks" the brain into not sensing pain. In place of pain, patients will sense tingling and numbness.
