25 years ago I was injured while studying abroad. Another surgeon performed a laminectomy and disk repair which, within 3 months was failing. That surgeon wanted to wait, saying "These things take time to heal." But I wasn't healing, I was getting worse. So at the recommendation of another specialist, I sought help from Dr. Hume, who immediately ran tests and discovered my disk was rapidly breaking down again, bits of it cutting into my spinal cord, and scheduled surgery for a fusion. With her connections at UCLA she was able to acquire a fusion implant still so new only 4 or 5 of them were availble in the country. There was a lot of damage. It took Dr. Hume and her husband 10 hours to do the fusion surgery. Unfortunately I keloid, so I still have pain from the excessive scarring, but I'm functional and the pain is managed. The problems caused by my body's keloiding response were not Dr. Hume's fault. Had she not acted so quickly, intuitively and professionally, I would quite likely have been paralyzed, especially with the development of excessive scarring. And her ability to pull strings to get that then~innovative implant saved me from the misery of 6 months in a body cast. The quality of my life was saved by Dr. Hume, and I am very grateful.

As a personal note, during the year under her care before she moved to Wyoming, enough conversation provided the opportunity to grt to know Dr. Hume as a person, and I have the utmost respect for her and her husband as professionals, individuals and as parents. With my highest respect and gratitude, I wish her and her family all of the best!
