About
Madan Kandula, MD
Dr. Madan Kandula established Advanced Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists, S.C. along with his wife and partner, Gwen Kandula, in 2004. The founding of the practice was the realization of a vision for how ear, nose and throat care could be elevated in today's health care environment.
Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio in a family of physicians, Dr. Kandula graduated from Duke University in 1993, receiving a triple major in Cultural Anthropology, Religion, and Biological Anthropology and Anatomy. During his time at Duke, Dr. Kandula was actively involved in the school's radio station, WXDU, serving as general manager, radio board chair, program director, music director, and disk-jockey. Because of his work at WXDU and with other campus organizations, Dr. Kandula was honored with the William J. Griffith University Service Award which is bestowed upon the ten graduating students who have made the largest impact on the university during their tenure.
After his career at Duke, Dr. Kandula attended Hahnemann University School of Medicine (now Drexel University) in Philadelphia. At Hahnemann, Dr. Kandula, once again, established himself as a leader inside and outside the classroom. He received the St. George Medical Cancer Society Fellowship for dedication to oncology research and the Dean's Award for Summer Research for his research in the field of gerontology. Dr. Kandula served as vice president of his sophomore, junior, and senior classes. In addition, Dr. Kandula was selected to be a Student Ambassador for the Hahnemann University Alumni Association, representing the university at local, regional, and national events. Dr. Kandula received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1998.
Dr. Kandula's post-graduate medical education began with his surgical internship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, which he completed in 1999. He, then, went on to his residency in otolaryngology - head and neck surgery at the University of Oklahoma, one of the country's top training programs in ear, nose, and throat disorders. While at OU, Dr. Kandula distinguished himself through his clinical work as well as through his research on the impact of tonsil surgery on quality of life in children. It was during his time at the University of Oklahoma that Dr. Kandula met his wife-to-be, Gwen, who was completing a fellowship in audiology at the university. Dr. Kandula was designated Chief Resident during his final year of residency, 2003. Dr. Kandula was designated a Fellow of the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (Board Certified) in 2004.
Seeking to be closer to their respective families, Drs. Madan and Gwen Kandula decided to start their careers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Kandula founded Advanced Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists in 2004, with the singular goal of providing the people of Milwaukee with a new level of care for their ear, nose, and throat needs.
