I don't have any complaints about the staff. They are truly dedicated to the residents and respond in a reasonable amount of time. Some have worked there over 30 years. The main thing I see is a lack of maintenance, repair of damages that would make the facility look a lot better and function better. However, I understand that the owners probably care more about the bottom line and the employees are busy trying to keep the costs down. My main concern is the lack of healthy food. They don't have a chef and serve a lot of low-nutrition, prepared meals that could greatly be improved if they had someone who knew how to take raw food and actually prepare "home-style" meals. I appreciate that we have a care facility that was accommodating and quick to respond to the need I had since they had room for my Mother on short notice. I would love to help improve the food, but it seems that there are too many regulations in place that would prevent me from actually helping. I would even volunteer to teach someone how to make nutritious meals from scratch which would actually not be as expensive as the prepared hi-carb menu that anyone without any actual cooking experience can serve. I don't have any complaints about the staff. I have been there a lot in the past week and haven't seen anyone with a bad attitude or being ugly to the residents. In fact, they have been very nice and do a great job in spite of the fact that it is a lot of work and it seems to be non-stop. I praise them and let them know that I appreciate what they do. I am glad it is a fully locked-down facility because my Mom would be a wanderer if she could walk now. At least she is safe. As a property manager, I know that it is necessary to keep property maintained to keep the value up. I know that you need to spend money to make money. I have heard of a group called Edgewater Angels and would like to see what they do and if they would be open to any ideas I might be able to come up with. I think it does matter that the food be nutritious and the facility be properly maintained. People looking for a place to place a relative look around and evaluate these things. I mainly picked it because I know a couple of people who work there and it is only a block from my office and I can go daily to check on her and help with her care. I would like to work with some churches to raise funds for things that could make it a better place for the residents and staff and give donors a way to contribute in a way that would be "tax-deductible". It is an old facility, but it is in an excellent location. There is always room for improvement. It reminds me of how we, as parents, can make our schools a better place for our kids by getting involved. Teachers like to be appreciated, and I'm sure the staff like to be appreciated.

My mom was placed in this facility in the Alzheimer Wing. That means locked down and that's understandable since most of the people aren't in their right mind and would possibly wander off. However this entire facility is lock down(meaning every time you visit someone has to ring you in AND out and that's if you can find someone to let you out) This facility is possibly the worst in Kerrville. At least in her wing everything was dirty, it always stank, there were only broken blinds on the windows and even those hung crooked. There were never enough staff to adequately care for the number of patients they had even if they were inclined to care for them. If the bed alarm was pressed it might be 30 minutes before someone responded if they responded at all. I was present when this happened and there was really no response. Mom's sheets were seldom changed unless I brought it up and she never appeared to be clean. My usual visits at the time was on the weekends so I am not sure if it was this way all week but it wasn't cleaner at any time of the week. I cried after every visit there and that's not my norm.
I moved her as soon as possible to a place in Fredericksburg and it is so much more pleasant.
