It's not possible to find enough positive ways to describe how wonderful Foss Home and Village is. It is the opposite of what most of us picture when we hear the words "nursing home."

This review is ridiculously long, but I hope you'll read it in its entirety.

My father spent the last three months of his life at Foss after breaking his hip. He was 87 years old. The level of care and and honest care-ing, gave me confidence and eased my mind knowing that dad was getting what he needed. Sensitive and caring nurses and nurses' aides made my dad as comfortable as he could be. Dad missed my mom as they had been married for 63 years. An employee actually took Dad to see Mom, who also lives at Foss, when he was sick, tired, and so lonely for Mom. At the end of Dad's life the employees treated him with dignity and understanding even as he was behaving in difficult ways.

My mom also lives at Foss. She has Alzheimer's which is getting worse quickly. Knowing the standards at Foss Home and Village helps me so much since I don't live in Seattle. Again I cannot say enough about "Unit 100" which is where residents like my mom live. Most importantly, mom is safe. But she is also happy. Amanda, the activity person went out of her way to include mom when she was first at Foss. She also made me feel welcome which helped me to feel secure about where mom lives. Lynn helps mom with personal grooming. Aides make sure she gets to meals. Someone made sure Mom made her hair appointment on time. Barbara helps mom with medication but also looks after mom in a gentle and loving way.

Foss not only takes care of resident's physical needs but they have many activities to choose from for fun, they provide grooming care, have a hair salon and other services in their basement, good food, and even art done by patients, framed and up in the hallways!! How cool is that? The employees there show a sincere caring, not only for the residents, but also for the relatives and friends of residents. There were at least a couple of employees who looked after me, even when my parents were no longer in their care. They actually remembered my name! Can you imagine?

Every time I walked down the hallways, literally everyone said hello sincerely, making eye contact and smiling. I thought it was a fluke at first, but no. Most unusual.

Thank you for reading through this long review. Hopefully it is helpful and you will be able to get you're loved one into this facility!

Foss Home and Village

This letter is concerning the people or procedures responsible for the initiating the 10 day termination of service provided, based upon facility staff members evaluations. Thus requiring the decision be appealed.

In my opinion, this does not project a true image or spirit of a care giving facility but that of a profit oriented business. If staff members are responsible they should be harshly reprimanded, and or the facility policies concerning temporary rehabilitation be reviewed, with regard to permitting facility staff members authority to supersede the patients doctor's evaluation.

On numerous occasions during the fist ten days, receiving the messages form your staff, about the "inability to physically improve " and prepare for discharge, was very unsettling. Considering this seemed extremely odd because during our frequent family visit we have seen slow but steady improvement.

On a more personnel note, the patient's husband recently passed away on May 20th of this year, and was her fulltime 24/7 caregiver. The family is trying it's best to fill this void but with her hip injury, emergency room visit, brief hospital stay and is now convalescing in your facility. Any kindness and consideration would be appreciated.

Respectfully,

Richard W. Clare
