I did not like the fact that when I arrived, no one was really able to know what I was talking about. In fact they could not even find my mother's name in their daily agenda. It was not professional for two staff members to discuss "where is she going?" in front of me.
No one asked if I needed a hand with my mother since I was getting a wheel chair and the TWO nurses I saw enter the building would not even lend a hand when asked. One nurse said they just had to go and relieve another nurse with a snarky attitude and the other said they had to go get their supervisor which took about 20 minutes. Therefore, I am outside in the freezing cold trying to help my mother until help finally arrives. The two gentleman that arrived were so nice and helpful to me an my mom. However, upon entering, the floor that my mother was assigned to stay on smelled to high heaven. It reeked of bowel for they had a row of soiled linen containers in the hall way. This is not sanitary nor professional. I understand that older people do have a certain smell and accidents happen, but you do not want this overpowering smell hitting you a soon as you step off the elevator. you want the place to be enticing and inviting - after-all your family is staying there and you will have to visit repeatedly, right?
Lastly, we get to the room and the attendant just leaves my mother in the wheel chair. You don't help with her coat or help her in the bed . She is waiting for a bout 25 minutes until my mother gets impatient and asks me to help her for she is tired. Before I helped, I went to get a nurse
( ironically it was one of those nurses that didn't help outside - Sylvia) and they never came to help. They gave me some BS about getting report and waiting to see who really had my mother as a patient. I felt like who cares - your job is to help and all you were doing was standing in the hallway looking at a medicine log book.
When a new admittance arrives, you should be welcomed almost like a hotel because you are scared, the family members are scared for they know they have to leave you here for a while and to not get great service as a FIRST IMPRESSION, you feel unsure about whether your family will get adequate service. I know I felt this way. I hope things get better because this FIRST IMPRESSION was absolutely terrible.
