About
Amy Johnson, MA,LMHC
I specialize in helping people who feel sad, frustrated, lonely, or worried because life just isn''t turning out the way they hoped or expected. These feelings may be the result of a significant life event, such as relationship issues, having trouble finding (and keeping) your soul mate, chronic pain or illness, dealth of a loved one, job loss, relocation, or other stressor. Perhaps you don''t know why you feel the way you do; as if there is a "general emptiness," and life seems too routine, without depth or meaning.
Does it seem as though happiness is always just out of your reach?
Have you found that, although there are a lot of good things in your life, it still seems as if there should be something "more"?
Do you feel helpless and frustrated with some of the people in your life?
Does it seem like you take care of everyone else, but your own needs fall by the wayside?
Have you found that you rarely do anything fun anymore, or that you have stopped doing things you used to enjoy?
Does it seem like you "did all the right things," but it doesn''t seem to matter?
Would you like to learn how to create the life you want without feeling guilty about it, or as if you are letting others down?
A lot of us grow up feeling undeserving or guilty about our desires and dreams, so we lock them away in our hearts. The thing is, they keep asking to be let out. This can show up in many ways, usually as stress, irritability, sleeplessness, difficult relationships, weight gain, anxiety, depression, unhealthy behaviors, and illness. During childhood and adolescence, it can also show up as rebellious behavior, apathy, moodiness, self-injury, promiscuous behaviors, drug experimentation, and anger.
Therapy can help relieve these symptoms, and free you to start living your life the way you want it, on your terms. Through compassionate listening, effective techniques and tools, and a collaborative healing relationship, I can help you to reconnect to your inner wisdom - that internal voice that knows what''s best for you and your life. It''s this voice that will help you to recognize and celebrate your unique strengths, work through blocks that are keeping you stuck in frustrating patterns, rediscover your passions, and figure out what would make you sparkle again.
As insight increases, you learn to listen to your heart and make empowering choices and changes that bring you out of your difficulties and into higher self-esteem, happier relationships, and a healthier, more satisfying life.
Whether you need short-term help with a specific situation, or longer-term help with deeper issues, professional counseling can help you to clarify your goals, then find ways to achieve them. Choosing a therapist is an important decision. Sometimes people have been brought up with the belief that seeing a therapist is a sign of weakness. I believe that it shows strength, courage, and intelligence to get professional help when needed. Your life is precious, and it''s the only one you''ve got. Don''t miss out on it! You deserve to live it with joy and freedom.
