Dental Implants and Restorations
Evelina Tolchinsky, DDS, DDS
Missing teeth often make it difficult to speak or chew properly, having a huge impact on a person’s daily life. What often goes unnoticed, however, is the underlying structural damage that occurs. The teeth work as a support system. Each tooth stays in place because the surrounding teeth help keep it in position. When a tooth is missing, the teeth will slowly shift and weaken. To prevent this, Dr. Evelina Tolchinsky and Dr. Inna Trogan may recommend dental implants to their Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene, and all of their New York City patients.
Understanding Dental Implants
Dental implants are a method to replace missing or severely damaged teeth. Rather than relying on surrounding teeth for support like with a dental bridge, a dental implant works as a root to provide a foundation for a crown. The implant is permanently placed into the jaw to provide structural support. The crown or removable denture will be color matched to the existing teeth so that there is no discernable difference. While the dental implant provides many functional benefits, they also create beautiful smiles for our patients at Signature Smile General & Cosmetic Dentistry.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants allow our patients in Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene, and all of New York City to find newfound confidence in their smile. Dental implants look and feel just like natural teeth. Dental implants can be used with removable dentures or permanent crowns, allowing patients the freedom and options that they need for their day-to-day life. The permanence also allows you to speak clearly and eat foods that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to enjoy with missing or damaged teeth. Overall, you’ll not only see an improvement in your self-esteem, but it will benefit your oral health as well. Dental implants can restore the support system in your teeth, allowing each tooth to stay in its place without shifting and maintaining the shape of the face.
Getting Dental Implants At Signature Smile
Dental implants are a fantastic way to improve the look and function of your smile. During your consultation, Dr. Tolchinsky or Dr. Trogan will determine if dental implants are right for you. They will discuss your exact treatment plan and take the necessary x-rays and scans. At your first visit, you will be placed under anesthesia. The implant, a small titanium post, is surgically placed into the bone that holds the teeth in place by a trust specialist. The bone will require six to twelve weeks to heal and fuse to the implant.Once the implant has bonded, a connector post, known as the abutment is attached, an impression is made to create the denture or crown. Dr. Tolchinsky and Dr. Trogan can custom design the dentures or crowns to restore your smile
Caring For Your Dental Implants
Caring for dental implants with crowns is just like caring for your regular teeth. Routine brushing and flossing will ensure the life of your porcelain teeth. A non-abrasive toothpaste and mouth rinse may be recommended for the health benefits. Removable dentures can be cared for similarly to other dentures with overnight rinses and gentle brushing. Patients should return to Signature Smile General & Cosmetic Dentistry for routine cleaning and exams to promote proper oral health and ensure everything is functioning as expected.
