Dr. Sweeney is a petty, heartless mercenary. I made an appointment 2 days in advance for a dog I was taking care of for a couple weeks while the owner was out of town. This dog had serious issues; his paw was completely inflamed and he couldn't put any weight on it, his appetite had decreased drastically, he was vomiting and had diarrhea. I show up at Dr. Sweeney's office on time, and after a short wait he comes into the office and refuses to treat the dog over... wait for it... a $36 bill that was past due from the owner's previous visit. When I offered to not only pay for the past due bill but also pay for the current treatment upfront, he refused, saying it was a matter of "principle" and that it would effect his "impartiality" towards the dog. I was shocked that he would deny treatment to a clearly suffering dog in order to basically punish the owner, who was 1500 miles away and had no idea what was taking place. When I posed the hypothetical that the dog could die in between then and the time it took me to find another vet and set up an appointment, he went on a rant about the "real world" and how that wasn't going to happen. I'd never trust putting a pet I cared about in the hands of someone so callous. Stay away from Hillandale Animal Hospital.
