I do not recommend the Animal Emergency Hospital of North Texas. They gave our wonderful pup, Mugsy extremely poor care! They did not give Mugsy the medicine needed to help him despite our pleas! They lied to us about it and they didn’t even have it in stock so we rushed it over to them the next day when we found out but it was too late! They didn’t get Mugsy’s surgical medical records which may have helped in saving his life and again we didn’t know this until 24 hours later so we got them but again it was too late! We also found out 24 hours later that they placed Mugsy in a small cage for O2 and they knew he had anxiety issues! They were suppose to try O2 through his nose if the situation worsened which it did yet they just kept him in that small cage for 24 hours which only worsened the situation. They gave us poor communication as well as they made it seem like a burden to update us on his condition as we always had to call to find out what was going on because we rarely heard from them as Mugsy was in critical condition.

Our 10 year old black lab, Zander, got very sick on a Friday. We took him to our regular vet around 5 and they gave him antibiotics and sent him home. By morning he was not doing well at all - so we returned to our vet, who again did not seem to know what was wrong or what to do. He sent us to Animal Emergency Hospital of North Texas. They were amazing. The entire team was caring, kind and helpful - starting with helping us to get Zander (95 pounds) in to the office, since he was no longer able to stand. Our vet had sent x-rays over for Zander, but Dr. Altom let us know that the films did not show the area that she felt was where the problem was. She retook the x-rays, letting us know she would not charge us for the new films. In viewing the new x-rays, she found 2 masses that our vet had not detected. She shared with us that this was not good news and actually had tears in her eyes when she talked to us. She recommended that she bring in a specialist to do an ultrasound and needle biopsy on those two areas. Dr. Altom was very up front, that this would not be inexpensive and left the choice completely up to us. I especially appreciated that they had someone come in and review all costs with us, up front. We elected to have the ultrasound and biopsy, with the specialist coming in to do the procedure later in the afternoon. After these tests were done, Dr. Altom called us to let us know it was not good news. We returned and the entire staff was incredibly kind to us. Dr. Altom sat on the floor with my husband, my son and I when she put Zander to sleep and she cried with us. They handled a bad situation in the best way possible and words cannot express how much we appreciate how Zander and his sad family was treated. When we got our bill, I was amazed that the only thing she charged us for was the specialist and the euthanazia/cremation. Two days later we received the most thoughtful card from Dr. Altom, with a very sweet note. In these times, where customer care and service is lacking in many places and where simple acts of kindness get forgotten - The Animal Emergency Hospital of North Texas is a rare find. This was a very hard time for our family, but the way they treated Zander and our family, made a bad situation bearable. I have nothing but good things to say about this doctor, team and facility.
