This rental property for seniors offers real value. There is a flexible, affordable meal program as well as an on site home health care agency. My elderly parent loves it here. People are friendly and those who wish to do so can meet for coffee six mornings a week in the dining room. However, a lot has changed since new management took over. While visiting over the past weekend, I observed that snow was not removed from sidewalks, putting residents in walkers and with canes at risk for serious injury. Residents have reported feeling talked down to by the current management staff. Concerns expressed to management at an open meeting were denied. When told what number to call for building emergencies, it was reported that problems would be addressed according to the property management's standards. When asked what the standards were, residents were told it was none of their business. The building office is now off limits to residents. Blinds are drawn and the door is shut so that no one can see in. Rent checks are to be placed in a mail slot on a stairway -- inaccessible to those in wheelchairs or with walkers. The climate at this wonderful place is changing as a result of the way that tenants are treated. I talked with several while visiting and observed a lot of stress. Hopefully this will all change because the residents are speaking out and contacting government agencies for assistance and to report violations of the ADA act. Be sure to talk to residents if you go for a tour, to find out if things have improved. It is an otherwise wonderful place for those on a limited budget who want to maintain their independence.
